PUBLIC MEETING FOR THE PRESENTATION OF REFERENDUM AGAINST PRIVATIZATION OF WATER
Speakers:
MARIANO Mazzacane Committee Water Prevalle
FABRIZIO VALLI of the Italian Forum of the movements' s water
Forum Italian movements for water, consisting of hundreds of local committees, presented in 2007 a law of popular initiative, with over 400,000 signatures, asking for water and its management ripubblicizzazione owned by citizens and local communities.
The current government has instead decided to approve in November Last Ronchi Decree, who has finally water to individuals and large corporations. In fact all the essential local public services (not just water) are placed on the market, subjecting them to the rules of competition and profit, expropriating the citizens of their property, painstakingly created over the years with investments paid for by our taxes.
A decree which does not seem to consider that in recent years, private-water management, which began in many parts of the country, has led to significant increases in bills and a drastic reduction of investment in the modernization of waterworks, sewerage systems and purification. Nevertheless, the new legislation requiring the forced sale of public assets and the entry of private players in essentially required companies running public services, will make it mandatory for water privatization. Water will be assigned the value of goods and it will be on the market as well to any economic significance.
For large companies the deal is guaranteed. Since they are natural monopolies, the outcome of the law will be to create private monopolies, by making the service more certainty to the terms outlined by the European Union, but the rules to cover these costs and to achieve maximum profits in the shortest available.
Ronchi Decree is therefore detrimental to the environment, health, and not least for employment.
why the Italian Forum of Water Movements has decided to present three referendum questions, and at the end of April will begin the campaign for the collection of signatures: 500000'll need to apply for the referendum.
three questions I want to repeal the disgraceful Ronchi Decree, but also the rules approved by the Prodi government in the past, that went in the same direction, to consider water as a commodity, the process of finalizing its management to produce profits for private companies .
We want to remove the water from the market and profits from the water. We want to return this to the common good land management. To ensure access to everybody. To safeguard it as a collective good. To be preserved for future generations.
